How To Stay Sick-Proof

I can’t believe we’re already in mid-September and, before you know it, we’ll be entering Cold & Flu Season! I’ve already been noticing more cold & flu symptoms going around, so now’s the best time to focus on prevention!
There’s many things you can do to bolster your immune defences to reduce the risk of colds, flus, and other illnesses. Even if you end up developing symptoms, keeping your immune system sharp will help reduce the severity and duration of symptoms.
Let’s take a look at some of the things you can start doing right away to help improve your immunity:
1) Get Better Sleep
Plain and simple – you need to get 7 – 8 hours of restful sleep per night. Burning the candle at both ends WILL jeopardize your immune system. If you’re having trouble getting to sleep or staying asleep, we can always schedule an appointment to help you improve your sleep naturally!
2) Stay Calm
Our modern lifestyles have us activating our stress response way too often, and this can suppress your immune function. We have to take measures to keep our stress levels in check – regular exercise, meditation, journaling, yoga, and spending time in nature are all ways we can promote a sense of calm and build our resilience to stress. If you’re feeling overwhelmed then lowering stress levels also requires that we say “NO” a little more.
3) Take Your Supplements
Don’t forget the basics – it’s amazing how important Vitamin C, Vitamin D, and Zinc are for your immunity, and these are easy and inexpensive supplements to take. It’s always best to have a blood test for Vitamin D levels, since many people are either taking too little or too much Vitamin D.
4) Echinacea
Echinacea is a great immune-boosting herbal medicine. Studies have shown it’s ability to boost white blood cells and reduce the duration and severity of cold & flu symptoms.
